International Christian School Nonthaburi offers K-12 education that extends beyond the classroom, prioritizing real-world preparedness in its students through hands-on learning experiences for secondary school students.
Through ICSN’s High School Internship Program, high school students have the opportunity to connect their academic learning with practical contexts, explore career options, develop skills, and try networking opportunities in Nonthaburi, Bangkok, and throughout Thailand.
International School Internship in Thailand: Essential for Secondary Students
The program helps students discover their interests and clarify their career aspirations. It aligns with ICSN’s overarching American curriculum education goals by:
- Promoting holistic development, where students grow intellectually, emotionally, socially, and ethically
- Supporting self-directed learning as students make informed choices about their futures
- Encouraging global citizenship
“The internship program serves as a bridge between academic knowledge and real-world experience that prepares our students for university and life.” Shares Mrs. Pariyanee Asumpingpong, Academic Extensions Coordinator
Since the program, students have better career clarity because they gain an understanding of what their future paths may entail. They realize what they enjoy, what challenges exist, and whether those paths align with their passions and values.
Diverse Career Exploration: Hands-On Opportunities at ICSN
ICSN has curated internship and career exploration opportunities spanning the medical industry to the culinary sector. In the recent terms, students have gained experience from the following industry partners:
Medical Internship at Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute (Ramathibodi Hospital) and Volunteer work at Siriraj Hospital
Medical-industry-inclined students went through a one-week rotation across different hospital departments that immersed them in the medical profession. They were exposed to different specializations, including internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and nursing services.
Veterinary Internship at Kachavej Animal Hospital and Panalai Animal Hospital
Students interested in veterinary science were required to complete a minimum of 100 working hours, during which they learned about animal care procedures and shadowed veterinary staff. They contributed to daily clinic operations and experienced both small and exotic animal cases.
Media Internship on a TV Series Production Set
Students interested in media, film, and production had the rare opportunity to intern on a professional TV drama series set. They participated as background actors and assisted the crew, gaining real insight into the entertainment industry and behind-the-scenes operations.
Legal Career Shadowing with Professional Lawyers
Through the “Shop Shadow” program, students followed experienced lawyers to observe court proceedings and client consultations. This initiative allowed students to explore the legal field by directly witnessing legal processes and trial dynamics.
UNESCO Youth Representation Experience
A select group of ICSN students represented youth voices in a UNESCO event, where they engaged in international dialogue and learned about the operations of global organizations—an ideal opportunity for those interested in diplomacy, policy, and international relations.
Entrepreneurship 1-Day Workshop
In partnership with a leading university, ICSN hosted a one-day intensive workshop on business and entrepreneurship. Students engaged in hands-on activities and simulations focused on innovation, business modeling, and pitching.
Culinary and Restaurant Internship at EDM Restaurant
Students interested in the culinary arts and the restaurant business interned at EDM Restaurant, where they gained hands-on experience in kitchen operations, front-of-house service, and business management–the full spectrum of running a professional dining establishment.
Preparing International School Students in Thailand for the Internship: ICSN’s Comprehensive Approach
Before participating in the one-week internship rotation, students go through a structured preparation process to ensure they are ready—both professionally and emotionally—for the experience, including:
- Career Counseling Session: Each student meets with a counselor to discuss their interest in the field and confirm their readiness for the program.
- Pre-Internship Orientation: Students attend a workshop covering topics such as workplace etiquette, appropriate dress, time management, safety guidelines, and expected behavior.
- Briefing on Host Organization: They are introduced to the expectations and nature of the specific organization or department they will be joining, including any applicable confidentiality agreements.
Partner Feedback: Success Stories from ICSN Internship Placements in Nonthaburi and Bangkok, Thailand
The feedback from our program partners has been overwhelmingly positive. Many supervisors and mentors from our partner organizations have commented on the students’ curiosity and willingness to learn, often asking thoughtful questions. ICSN’s secondary students have demonstrated respect and exhibited professional behavior, even in high-pressure or sensitive environments.
In some cases, students made such a strong impression that organizations expressed interest in welcoming future cohorts or even inviting the same students back for extended opportunities.
This kind of feedback not only reflects the success of the program but also speaks volumes about the quality of character and preparation our students carry with them into the real world.
Successful Internship Stories
“One notable example is Sand. After his internship at the Ministry of Commerce in Bangkok, he found a deeper curiosity—not just in business—but also in international diplomacy. As a result, Sand began to explore related fields and ultimately decided to pursue university studies in International Relations, something he hadn’t previously considered. His story is an example of how hands-on exposure can ignite new passions and clarify long-term goals.” Mrs. Pariyanee shares.
“We’ve also had students intern on film sets, believing they wanted a career in media production, only to realize how demanding and exhausting the work can be. While some still pursue that path with renewed respect, others redirect their focus, now better informed and aligned with their strengths. This kind of self-discovery is one of the greatest outcomes of the program!”
ICSN Students’ Post-Internship Reflections: Connecting Experience to Future Goals
After their internships, students are guided through a structured debriefing process, where they are encouraged to discuss their observations, the skills they applied, and how the experience shaped their thinking in small group sessions or with mentors and counselors.
This process helps students make sense of their experiences, connect them to their academic journey, and take more intentional steps toward their long-term goals.
Expanding Horizons: More Internship Opportunities for International Christian School Nonthaburi Students in Bangkok and Beyond
As an international school in Thailand, ICSN continually designs opportunities that align with the students’ evolving interests, and it’s truly exciting to see their curiosity expand across a wide range of fields. While some areas of interest may be more challenging to access through in-person placements, we are committed to supporting students by offering virtual internships, online mentorships, or arranging specialized workshops to ensure they still gain meaningful exposure and experience.
