KINDERGARTEN

Kindergarten: K1 – K3

We use the unique Key to Learning curriculum, which focuses on developing children’s learning abilities. This Vygotskian-based approach to teaching is a research-based program that combines intentional, imaginative play and developmental psychology. Our curriculum focuses on developing the cognitive, communicative, and self-regulative abilities of early years learners through focused 20-minute activities that encourage children to be independent learners.

Construction

Develops mathematical and goal-directed behavior. Children analyze the structure of objects, plan, explain their plans, and execute them using modular building blocks.

Sensory Mathematics

Develops the ability to analyze the external, visual qualities of objects using sensory standards such as color, shape, and size. Builds the foundation for the development of mental abilities.

Artographics

Cultivates the essential skills required both for writing and creative artistic expression. Develops “art vision” and introduces different symbolic tools, composition, rhythm, and color.

Expressive Movements

Develops emotional intelligence, non-verbal communication skills, creativity, and productive imagination through body movement, gestures, facial expressions, and music.

Mathematics

Using visual models, children discover the language of mathematics and the concept of measurement. They compare different quantities and qualities of objects and explore the relationships of “more, less, equal.”

You+Me+World

Using symbols and visual models, children learn about themselves as physical, emotional and social beings. They investigate the natural and material world (living things and inanimate objects).

Areas of Focus

Our K1 (Preschool) class is for children 3 – 4 years old. The class has one Foreign teacher, one Thai co-teacher, and at least one nanny to support the care of the children and maintain classroom cleanliness. Children can apply for full time enrollment throughout the year, based on seat availability.

ICSN provides a nurturing environment for K1 students to advance in their physical, social, and cognitive development. Even as instruction shifts towards English-only and we more intentionally incorporate the components of Key to Learning into activities, our teachers continue to maintain the warm, home-like atmosphere for the young learners of this age group to feel safe as they explore the world around them.

Our K2 (Pre-Kindergarten) class is for children 4 – 5 years old. The class has one Foreign teacher, one Thai co-teacher, and one nanny to support the care of the children and maintain classroom cleanliness. Children can apply for full time enrollment throughout the year, based on seat availability.

Though classroom activities may look similar to a preschool class, ICSN K2 classes are the setting to begin activating learner agency; it is the grade level where independent learner strategies, habits and skills are both modeled and taught. Our teachers instruct and guide their students at a higher level of academic disciplines and subjects:

  • Social Studies (the family, different cultures, etc.)
  • Language Arts (class discussions, phonics, etc.)
  • Math (measuring, pattern recognition, etc.)

Our K3 (Kindergarten) class is for children 5 – 6 years old. The class has one Foreign teacher and one Thai co-teacher. Children can apply for full time enrollment throughout the year, based on seat availability.

The K3 grade level is an important year for early years learners! As the children explore academic concepts in the world around them and encounter new ideas, classroom activities continue to lead them to use what they already know! They will also be challenged to expand their knowledge and skills in language, reading, writing, math, social studies and science with hands-on activities that are meaningful and impactful to them.

  • Language Arts (phonetics, speaking and listening, vocabulary, etc.)
  • Math (patterns and classification, number sense, computation, etc.)
  • Science (human body, plant life, water cycle, etc.)
