School Safety First: International Christian School Nonthaburi Conducts Earthquake Drill After Magnitude 7 Quake

Following the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that shook Myanmar and sent tremors across several Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand, on March 28, 2025, the International Christian School Nonthaburi (ICSN) has updated its Crisis Management Plan to include an enhanced earthquake response protocol.

Magnitude 7.7 in Bangkok and Tremors in Nonthaburi, Thailand

While the epicenter was 600 miles away, the magnitude 7 earthquake’s impact was strongly felt in Bangkok and nearby cities. In Nonthaburi, ICSN experienced the tremors, which prompted an immediate response. After ensuring that all students were safely evacuated and accounted for from the school buildings, the school implemented an early dismissal that allowed parents to pick up their children early as a precaution.

ICSN Buildings Safe for Continued Use

Shortly after the event, the ICSN maintenance team conducted a full inspection of all facilities. To ensure further safety, the school also engaged a certified structural engineer from Wor Consultant to evaluate the buildings.

We’re pleased to share that ICSN has received an official certification confirming that the main structural components of the buildings remain intact, stable, and secure, with no impact on the integrity of the school’s infrastructure.

ICSN Prioritizes Student Safety with Timely Earthquake Drill

True to its commitment to student safety, International Christian School Nonthaburi organized a full-scale earthquake drill on April 4, 2025. Students participated in a guided walk-through of evacuation procedures and were taught how to respond appropriately during an earthquake.

Active Earthquake Response: Drop, Cover, and Hold On

In an earthquake, students are reminded to stay calm and not evacuate during the shaking. ICSN’s earthquake alarm will signal everyone to immediately:

  • Drop down to the ground
  • Cover by taking shelter under a sturdy table or desk
  • If no furniture is nearby, crouch near an interior wall, away from windows, and use arms to protect the head
  • Hold On until the shaking completely stops

Earthquake Evacuation Procedures

Once the earthquake tremors have stopped, a different alarm will signal the evacuation. Each class follows assigned evacuation routes to pre-determined assembly points. Earthquake evacuation procedures include:

  • Lining up students in height order
  • Leaving all personal belongings behind
  • Teachers taking attendance before exiting
  • Walking in a single-file, silent line, guided by the teacher
  • Staff without classes offering assistance to students and supporting smooth movement across the campus

Student Safety and Well-being: The Heart of ICSN

Ensuring the students’ safety and well-being is at the heart of everything we do. ICSN empathizes with all families that the recent magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Bangkok and nearby cities was unsettling for many people. The school is here for you. The school remains committed to supporting students and parents as we navigate these challenges together.

As part of our mission, we are sharing tips and resources to help families discuss crisis events with their children and build emotional resilience in times of uncertainty.
